Little City Farm Eco Bed & Breakfast

Little City Farm Bed & Breakfast is a green alternative to traditional B&B's.

Situated in a cozy 120-year old house, on a unique evolving site in downtown Kitchener, Ontario, we provide comfortable, simple, eco-friendly lodging in a peaceful “urban farm” setting that leaves guests relaxed and renewed. We hope our B&B shows that a sustainable life can be joyous and beautiful.

Homegrown Organic Vegetarian/Vegan Meals
Our outstanding gourmet vegetarian/vegan breakfasts feature a healthful seasonal, local, organic menu. We make our own yogurt, jams and preserves, freshly baked breads and granola, and loose-leaf herbal teas picked from the herb garden. Fair trade organic coffee is also always available. Whenever possible, we try to incorporate homegrown offerings from our gardens. Any food wastes are given to our chickens, or composted for use in our gardens.

Natural Linens & Chemical-Free House
Our B&B is completely chemically scent-free. We use only biodegradable and environmentally friendly products for our cleaning supplies, laundry detergents, soaps and shampoos. Paints and finishes are no or low-VOC, and bedding and towels are made from natural and organic materials. Bedding and towels are made of natural fibres including organic cotton, wool and hemp. All linens are washed in unscented biodegradeable detergents, and hung out in the sun to dry. They smell fresh and wonderful!

Green Electricity
Since 2009 our B&B has been run on 100% green electricity through Bullfrog Power. As we try to minimize our energy consumption there is no central air conditioning, but the house stays comfortable with large trees offering shade and open windows for fresh air breezes.

Convenient Location
We are close to bus routes, and conveniently located within walking distance of both uptown Waterloo and downtown Kitchener, while still maintaining a feeling of peacefulness and seclusion. Little City Farm Bed & Breakfast demonstrates that small can be beautiful and plentiful. Come experience for yourself what a sustainable urban environment can look like. We look forward to meeting you!

A Brief History of the House at 508 Duke St W

Our house was built in 1888 and is quite likely one of the original farm houses that stood in this area (at that time it was on the outskirts of Kitchener). It was built by the first owner, who was a carpenter, and is of simple, modest construction. There have only been a handful of owners during the history of this home, and we have lived here since 1999. We liked the yellow brick lines of the original house, and have built an addition in 2008 which we made of natural strawbale materials - also simple, modest, honest construction built with our own hands.
