Dates: Sat, Feb 17
Time: 1-3 pm
Facilitators: Karin, Greg, Maya & Finley from Little City Farm
Both adults & kids are welcome to this class on how to raise your own backyard hens! Our Little City Farm family will be here to lead this fun, informal and interactive class.
Are you thinking about getting chickens? In this workshop we will start by talking about what you need to consider before getting hens. We'll discuss local bylaws, coop design, coop cleaning, predator safety, care for hens (both summer and winter conditions), basic chicken first-aid, and types of feeds. We'll talk about raising chickens from egg and/or chick stage, herbal treats and special foods you can make at home for your hens best health!
Then meet our hens and get a chance to interact with them and feed them. We'll tour our chicken run and hen house, show you our nest box design and cleaning methods, and you will leave feeling ready to start your own flock of backyard hens! Lots of time for questions and discussion, and you will get a great hand-out resource booklet to take home.
At time of registration, please let us know if you are bringing a child along. 1 adult + 1 child can register together for one fee.
Please dress to be outdoors. We will spend much of our workshop outside so dress for the weather (warm boots, and outer wear that you don't mind getting a bit muddy/dusty).
Cost: $30 + HST
